Hamuera was born in Lower Hutt, and has lived in Wellington most of his life.

He whakapapa's to Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki, Ngati Kahungunu, and Kai Tahu.

Hamuera completed his medical training at the University of Auckland, then worked in Hamilton before returning to Wellington and joined the team at EBHC in late 2024.

He is a family man, a lifelong learner, a gym frequenter, and chocolate lover!
